Our Story
Our journey was not a typical one and some could argue it was a bit out of order. We took risks and put a lot of faith in each other and the unknown future. but it's our journey and it's led us to decide on forever!
DESIGNED TO BE DELETED
It all started with a “Like”. One evening in June, Kalyan had been doing his evening scrolling through dating apps and something caught his attention on Natalie’s dating Hinge profile. Maybe it was her eyes, or her smile, or the prompt “Something weird about me: “I like nice guys.” That kind of opening could not be missed and Kalyan had to ask Natalie, “why is it weird that you like nice guys?” The stars aligned and they matched on Hinge! And the rest was history.
Natalie was travelling with her family during their first days of messaging. It was quickly apparent to Natalie that Kalyan did seem like a nice guy, and she enjoyed the first days of their messages and calls. With Natalie on vacation, we spent more time talking on the phone and facetiming than most people do before a first date, but after our first date which took place at James Coffee in Little Italy, we knew we had found something special. Among other "signs", we realized we were both into Disney and traveling, and Kalyan also shared a huge fondness for superheroes, much like Natalie’s 8-year-old son, Jonathan.
Soon we shared a fondness for Jonathan.
Through a combined love for traveling (Natalie is still waiting on her trip to Australia), going to Padres games, and above all—spending time together, we became each other's go-to person, navigating life hand in hand. During some very unprecedented years in the world, the one thing we were consistently sure about was each other.
Ask us what we love about each other, and you'll get the real deal. Natalie will tell you that Kalyan has this uncanny ability to keep her grounded, making every day feel simultaneously comforting and exciting. Kalyan, on the other hand, will tell you that Natalie is his biggest cheerleader who always makes him feel supported.
Together, we've discovered that the best adventures are the ones we create with each other, and we feel so grateful for our partnership. Join us this April as we say "I do" and kick off the next phase of our life together at the Torrey Pines Hilton, the place where our parents coincidentally met each other for the first time last Easter. We're SO excited to share this day with the very people who've been a part of our love story.
OUR LOVE STORY
Soon after we started dating, Kalyan asked Natalie on a whim if she would like to go to a Taylor Swift concert in LA. Natalie was on the fence, but we decided to go up that same day and attend the concert. The woman sitting next to Natalie leaned over and asked an innocuous question – who was the guy sitting to her. At that very moment Taylor Swift began to play her song “Lover.” Natalie turned to Kalyan and said, “Well, who are you?” Kalyan responded with “You’re my girlfriend.” Natalie quipped back “you have to ask me.” Kalyan without hesitation but maybe one minor sigh, said “Will you be my girlfriend?” Natalie responded by kissing him.
THE PROPOSAL
Kalyan and Natalie had been going to Disneyland on a fairly regular basis since they had started dating. In June 2024 Natalie went to her favorite place in the world, the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Kalyan, bogged down perpetually by work, could not get away for the vacation. But while Natalie was gone he began to formulate his plan for the proposal. First, he contacted Vanessa Nicole, a high school classmate who specializes in designing custom engagement rings. Then he worked with Vanessa to design the perfect ring for Natalie, a diamond, with Montana sapphires on each side, symbolizing the three members of their new family, Kalyan, Natalie and Jonathan. Once the ring was designed, the location had to be chosen. Kalyan chose Disneyland, on a random weekday in October so that Natalie wouldn’t know the most obvious proposal in the world was forthcoming.
In front of the Matterhorn (not in front of the Castle) Kalyan got to one knee as the Disney photographer distracted Natalie with promises of photos holding balloons or Tinkerbell. Then Natalie turned around, to see Kalyan on one knee, still holding her hand, with a ring box outstretched.
Kalyan then said “Natalie, in the closest thing to your favorite place, the Matterhorn, in our favorite place, will you be my favorite place forever and be my wife?”
Natalie, for some reason surprised by the turn of events, quickly said yes, to the applause of the crowd that had gathered.
When we got home, we broke the news to Jonathan, who said, “now where’s my ring.”
